Poynton 2-2 Rudheath Social Rudheath Social travelled to Poynton for their last game of the season where only a victory would be enough to get the Northwich side promoted but victory for Poynton would ensure they finished off a strong season in third position. The game started at a fast and furious pace with Rudheath played a lot of long ball in an attempt to catch their opponents on the break. It was Poynton who broke the dead lock when Anthony Knowles struck from inside the box after 20 minutes to give Poynton a 1-0 lead. Rudheath battled hard and were rewarded seven minutes later when Stevie McNicholl put them back on level terms. This inspired Rudheath and a crazy ten minutes saw Paul Alcock head home to put Rudheath in front. However an injury time penalty awarded for hand ball by Stuart Plant, saw Mark Faulkner put Poynton back on to level terms going into the break. The second half continued at the same frantic pace with Rudheath surging forward for a winner but Poynton determined not to let their defence slip up. A lack of discipline late in the game saw Poynton reduced to ten men when their striker received a second caution and Rudheath's manager was also dismissed for misconduct. Tempers were flaring and this reflected on the football with neither side able to create a winner, seeing the game finish 2-2. This result means that Crewe finished in second place and will be promoted with champions Whaley Bridge who have had a very successful debut season in the Cheshire League. Poynton Reserves 4-0 Lynotype Cheadle HN Reserves Poynton finished 4-0 winners over local rivals Linotype CHN on Thursday night with goals from Lee Quinlan, Mike Carroll, Tom Watson and Chris Allen.
