Poynton 1sts celebrated their fourth league victory in a row to climb up to fourth spot beating Sandbach United 4-1 away. Poynton took the lead after 15 minutes minutes when confusion at the back lead to a Sandbach own goal. Mid way through the half Rick Tindall made it 2-0 with a fantastic strike to give Poynton a comfortable lead at the break. Ash Lawton pulled one back for Sandbach shortly after the restart and continued to apply pressure for an equaliser. However their revival took a blow when they were reduced to ten men and a late brace from Mark Faulkner put the game beyond Sandbach's reach to see Poynton finish 4-1 winners.
Reserves celebrated a 3-1 victory away at Daten thanks to a John Cairns hat trick. The score line could have been more emphatic had Duncan Warrander, Paul Marchbank and Steve Lavelle converted good chances.
The Youth Team completed the perfect weekend winning 4-1 at home to Tonic FC which included 2 penalty saves from Poynton keeper Tom Nixon.

Sandbach 1 - 4 Poynton
A big win for Poynton against a direct rival which keeps ourselves in contention for a top two finish. We knew how important this game was to us after so far failing to beat the teams around us despite coming close at times. This led to a real buzz around the changing room before the game with every single member of the squad focused and raring to go.
Poynton started brightly something we haven’t always done. Putting the opposition under real pressure. We broke the deadlock after good work down the left saw Alex Kemp whip in an excellent ball in to the much talked about "corridor of uncertainty" Sanbachs number 4 could only divert in to his own net. Poynton continued to press but were perhaps guilty of not always tracking runners etc probably a result of enjoying such domination. This led to Sanbach having a number of half chances from sloppy Poynton defending. Poynton held on thanks to at least two smart saves from Andy Cowell.
At the other end the red/blacks were constantly looking dangerous smart qucik neat link up between Jake "skipper" Wright & Richard Tindall saw Tindall let fly from 30 yards, top corner 2-0 a top draw goal from poyntons number 10 who really was running things up there.
Second half was all about keeping things tight while pressing home our advantage at the other end. Still we like to make things a little difficult for ourselves and allowed Sandbach to push on. Despite looking comfortable this gave the opposition the belief they could get something from the game. Our confident attitude only increased when Sanbachs centre half through an elbow at Poyntons number 9 Mark Faulkner, referee had no choice to brandish a red card.
Que 10 mins of how not to play against 10 men, we sat off, sat deep and allowed Sanbach to play, after 10 mins of pressure the home side grabbed a lifeline as their centre forward nicked in and made it 2-1.
A combination of Poyntons experience and every player rolling their sleeves up we suddenly began to do the things which had got us in such a comfortable position. We pushed high up the pitch pressured every ball, worked hard for each other. Playing the simple pass while we started to make the pitch big and stretch their ten men. This led to 20 mins of all Poynton where it really could have been 5 or 6.
Mark Faulkner was able to do what he does best and popped up with 2 goals in the final 10 mins to secure an excellent win.
Despite 10 mins in the 2nd half Poynton really did put in a real team performance, working hard, moving the ball quickly. In the defence what was particulary pleasing was how we backed each othe up. Any mistakes players were covered by another. When winning a tackle a team mate was there tp pick up the ball. Going forward we looked so dangerous with Richard Tindall putting in a majestic display. When he plays like this there isnt a better number 10 in the league.
A performance that bodes well for the rest of the season and I dont remember a stronger 15.
Well done lads worked hard and got what we deserved. Team: Andy Cowell, Iain Bailey, Paul Garner, Alex Kemp (Nath Shaw), Jake Wright, Paul Garvey, Andy Oakes, Chris Allen, Richard Tindall, Mark Faulkner (Josh Bates)

Its become clear that I ve been guilty of over looking a few players who have consistently been vital to the teams success, falling in to the trap of naming/mentioning the more flashy/fancy dan players.
Not that Cowelly has ever been called a fancy dan before. Although I think he would look excellent in a pair of white boots.
Anyway few shout outs:
Paul Garner as always was a rock at the back, never misses a header, always covering mistakes ( even if he does then dribble 20 yards over run it & put us under pressure. also a threat at the other end.
Also Andy Oakes while slightly one paced these days they do say your ability/touch is the last thing to go. Joking aside. When under the cosh at 2-1 hes experience was vital. Saw that we were sat to deep and pushed us up in his quiet but authorative manner. Also got us playing and always plays the simple ball.
