Comedy Night Fri 26th September, 8pm
We are pleased to present an evening of laughter with 3 fantastic comics performing cutting edge stand up at Poynton Sports Club.
Tickets can be obtained in advance from behind the club bar.
WES ZAHARUK
Zany Yank Wes Zaharuk credits his comic roots to his parents. They made ‘not listening’ an Olympic event. As a child, his parents dressed him in wool pants that were incredibly itchy. Complain as he would, his words fell on deaf ears. When he developed a skin condition that looked like a large, all-dressed pizza, he was tested for allergies. It was found that he was allergic to wool. Through it all, Wes developed his desire to be heard — if only to reduce rash.
Early in his career Zaharuk’s fast paced razor wit and tornado-like approach to comedy caught on quickly. Soon he became one of the most requested comedian at clubs, colleges, and major corporations through North America. Now he’s here in the UK to show us how he did it!
About the use of props in his performance Wes quips “Show business sometimes lures people who didn't get enough love early in life. I feel as a child I didn't get enough unsupervised time with power tools but who has perfect parents?”
"Twin Peaks meets Cirque Du Soleil ... simply amazing" Toronto Sun "Zaharuk is mad as a box of badgers." Graeme Bright
DALISO CHAPONDA
... is an African comedian who began his comedy career in Canada with the acclaimed one man show ‘Feed This Black Man’ in 2001. Subsequent appearances across Canada followed (highlights include 2005 The Just For Laughs Festival 2005 & CBC Television’s ‘Trans Canada Comedy Trail’).
In 2004 Daliso Chaponda headlined the ‘Don’t Let Them Deport Me’ Comedy Show as a plea to officials to have his Canadian visa extended. The show was sold out, well reviewed and frenzied letters were written to bureaucrats. He was forced to leave anyway after one final show, 2005’s “They’re Deporting Him Anyway.”
Next, he worked as a comedy writer and performer in South Africa and recently he moved to the UK. In only a few months he quickly established himself on the British circuit and began headlining shows across the country. Daliso is a versatile comedian equally comfortable talking politics, romance, filth or religion. As such, he has performed in churches, pubs, clubs, theatres and on TV.
"It takes a special kind of act to work on both sides of the Atlantic (as well as across Africa), but it seems an easy transition as he compels the crowd with his racial and socially insightful comedy." News and Star, Carlisle "Absolutely [took] the roof off the place. Brilliant, brilliant act." - The Frog and Bucket
"With his frank delivery, accent and cartoonish voice, he has a unique and endearing stage presence." – Community Contact, Montreal
TONY VINO - MC
Preston’s very own funnyman. Tony Vino (**** The Scotsman) has been touring the comedy scene since early 2005. Well aware of social and political issues he mixes friendly well thought out observational humour with audience interaction and quick witted responses. A finalist in 2006 Funny Bones competition, Tony has enjoyed recognition as a comedian and comedy compere of renown. His life and interests are wide ranging and so is the subject matter he weaves together on stage.
“A Great Show the assured Tony Vino copes with a mixed audience really well” Kate Copstic, The Scotsman
“Uplifting style, great delivery and consistently funny throughout” BBC Manchester
“Tony is very funny, a class act and always comes up with the goods” Darren Goddard, Greenbelt Festival Events
“Funny, straight-talking. Not afraid to dabble with religious issues, silly not sacrilegious, had to smile.” Tim Park BBC Website
“Life Affirming Comedy” BBC1 Heaven & Earth Show
