Whaley Bridge put on an impressive performance as they beat Poynton (1sts) 5-0 at home to close the gap at the top to ten points as they close in on leaders Crewe. Lee Morris put Whaley ahead after nine minutes. Poynton came back strong but failed to capitalise after missing a penalty only for Whaley to be awarded one themselves on the stroke of half time with Bill Sutton making no mistake. Ricky Forder made it 3-0 shortly after the restart, with Sutton adding his second before striker Micky Ryan made it 5-0 to secure a convincing victory.
Paul McNeill opened the scoring for Poynton Reserves as they travelled to Denton Town, but on the half hour mark the visitors were reduced to ten men forcing them to work hard to retain the lead. Denton eventually broke them down in the 74th minute when Wayne Cox made it 1-1, but Poynton refused to be beaten and were rewarded when John Cairns added the winner in the 83rd minute.
On Sunday morning The U21 took the short journey to Heald Green and brought back a 0-0 which should be enough to see them top their group in the divisional cup.
The Vets put on an impressive display beating Plumley 5-2 at Poynton Sports Club. A hat-trick from striker Steve Betts helped secure the points aided by goals from Rob Wildblood (following a tireless run and cross from Lincoln Philips) and a 35 yard screamer from Glyn Edwards.
